How Efficient?

A quick intro about the Window
Energy Ratings Scheme (WERS)

Understanding window energy-efficiency can at times be a bit daunting. Many factors come into play when assessing window energy-efficiency. Thankfully, some years back, experts in the Australian Fenestration industry established the Austrailan Windows Association (AWA).

One of the many functions of the AWA is the management of the Window Energy Ratings Scheme (WERS).

WERS allows for fenestration products sold in Australia to be independently tested for their energy-efficiency. After testing, fenestration products can be given a ‘Custom Ratings’. These Custom Ratings are then available to the public on the WERS website to assist consumers make informed decisions regarding purchases of energy-efficient fenestration products.
WERS is also endorsed on the Australian Government’s website ‘Your Home – Australia’s guide to environmentally sustainable homes’. WERS is the national benchmark for window energy-efficiency ratings in all Australian States and Territories.

The WERS scheme operates on three levels to convey information about the energy performance of custom-rated windows and skylights:

  1. 1

Star ratings for heating and cooling

  2. 2

Indicative % reduction in heating and cooling needs

  3. 3

Thermal, solar and optical performance data

Our WERS Custom Ratings Results:

All Seasons Thermal Window’s (ASTW) retrofit double-glazing system has been independently tested according to the Window Energy Ratings Scheme (WERS) performance indicators and has achieved the following Custom Ratings:

According to the AWA, in testing,
based on an average house containing just 8% area of glazing in the entire building fabric, as much as 49% of heat lost can come from the windows.

Energy efficient windows will make your home more comfortable, dramatically reduce your energy costs and help to create a brighter, cleaner, healthier environment.

To enable the selection of high performance in different areas of Australia, WERS has split the country into three main areas that each require different window properties to achieve the best results. The map below shows these three main areas.
